বীরশ্রেষ্ঠ রুহুল আমিন ১৯৫৩ সালের পাকিস্তান নৌবাহিনীতে জুনিয়র মেকানিক্যাল ইঞ্জিনিয়ার হিসেবে যোগদান করেন। ১৯৬৫ সালে তাকে নৌবাহিনীর আর্টিফিসার হিসেবে নিযুক্ত করা হয়। ১৯৬৮ সালে তাকে চট্রগ্রামের পিএএএস বখতিয়ার নৌঘাঁটিতে বদলি করা হয়। ১৯৭১ সালের এপ্রিল তিনি গোপনে মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশ নেন। সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে তিনি নবগঠিত বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনীতে যোগ দেন এবং ১০ ডিসেম্বর ১৯৭১ শহীদ হন।
